Calculating an exceptional machine
In previous work we showed how to verify a compiler for a small language with exceptions. In this article we show how to calculate, as opposed to verify, an abstract machine for this language. The key step is the use of Reynold’s defunctionalization, an old program transformation technique that has recently been rejuvenated by the work of Danvy et al.
متن کاملThe Calculating Machine of Blaise Pascal
The digital electronic computer PASCAL in Philips Computing Centre has been given this name in honour of the French mathematician and philosopher Blaise Pascal I), who in 1642, at the age of eighteen, designed a calculating machine at Rouen. His obj eet with this machine, which became known as the Pascaline, was to ease the burden on his father who, as a tax official, had a great deal of figure...
متن کاملHybrid Simulation of a Frame Equipped with MR Damper by Utilizing Least Square Support Vector Machine
In hybrid simulation, the structure is divided into numerical and physical substructures to achieve more accurate responses in comparison to a full computational analysis. As a consequence of the lack of test facilities and actuators, and the budget limitation, only a few substructures can be modeled experimentally, whereas the others have to be modeled numerically. In this paper, a new hybrid ...
متن کاملElectrical transport along bacterial nanowires from Shewanella oneidensis MR-1.
Bacterial nanowires are extracellular appendages that have been suggested as pathways for electron transport in phylogenetically diverse microorganisms, including dissimilatory metal-reducing bacteria and photosynthetic cyanobacteria. However, there has been no evidence presented to demonstrate electron transport along the length of bacterial nanowires. Here we report electron transport measure...
متن کاملEvaluation of unintended electrical stimulation from MR gradient fields.
Exposure of patients with active implants (e.g. cardiac pacemakers and neurostimulators) to magnetic gradient fields (kHz range) during magnetic resonance imaging presents safety issues, such as unintended stimulation. Magnetically induced electric fields generate currents along the implant's lead, especially high at the distal tip. Experimental evaluation of the induced electric field was prev...
